I really think Gary has it right on. Unbelieveable sanctioning/ rights fee's to begin with. Secondly, most retailers took a bath on NASCAR product. Except for 88/24/48, the cars just sat on the pegs....

it appears as though over-production killed the collector market.  I remember a few years ago, nascar diecast shows in my area almost every month ... sales of "special nascar cars" on HSN & QVC...

I picked up a 2009 NASCAR Winners Circle 1/64 67 Impala,Jeff Gordon Dupont colors the other day. $2.49 at the Bargan Shop in Kitchener Ontario. First toy I bought this year.
